Who we are …
a couple of retired/semi-retired folks who spend their “free” time visiting some favorite haunts, seeking treasures at flea markets, yard sales, barn sales, estate sales, ratty old barns even roadside freebies (really). Over the past year we’ve met many interesting people, heard some very interesting stories, usually about the background of some piece of furniture or another.
It really is a fun way enjoy our time together. We’ve logged a lot of miles, dined in too many restaurants to count and come to the conclusion that almost everywhere in Des Moines is near the Hickman / Merle Hay intersection.
This first year, in spite of all of this discombobulation going on in the world, making new friends (masked), seeing Iowa up close (even the heartbreaking damage caused by the derecho), being in the shop and being creative has been memorable as well as fun. – Mike
Some of the D.I.Y. products we carry
A few of our favorite places to browse
The Cornucopia, Lincoln Way, Ames Iowa Currently undergoing a major renovation to the dining area. The gift shop is relocating to Historic Downtown Ames as I write.
Gravy Home Goods, Main Street, Jewell, Iowa. This shop calls itself a “vintage home goods store with original and repurposed finds to make your house fresh and fun”. And that it is. It’s also chock full of ideas. Did I mention the owner? More fun than her inventory.
Carroll Design & Salvage, Hwy. 30 Carroll, Iowa. An eclectic array of vendors and some cool stuff also. D.I.Y. home décor supplies and ideas abound. Well worth a visit.
Where to next?
